Chin, Deborah

Referee

Debbie Chin was a highly respected basketball and volleyball official. She officiated high school championship games, regional collegiate championships, and three AIAW national basketball championships.

Gaby, Robin

College Player

Robin Gaby was a three-sport athlete at RHAM High school in Hebron where she scored 1,379 points and averaged 19 points per game during her four-year basketball career. In her senior year, Gaby was named to the All-State Team for her per-game average of 23 points, 14 assists, and 6 steals. She was a two-time All Charter Oak Conference Player and a First-Team selection by the Jackson Newspapers and the C.H.S.C.A.

Lynch, Bonny

High School Player

Bonny Lynch was the most prolific scorer in Farmington High girls’ basketball history. During her 3-year basketball career (1974-1978), she averaged 25 points, seven assists, and four steals per game. Her career total of 1,211 points set a record at Farmington High School.

Johnson Breland, Sabrina

During her career at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Sabrina Johnson averaged 29 points per game. She played on two district championship teams and was a member of the 1984 State Championship Team. She was All-State and All-District in 1984 and was voted the number one high school player in Connecticut.

Degennaro Raftery, Laura

During her senior year at Hamden High School, Laura DeGennaro set three single season records. She scored 574 points, had 96 assists, and averaged 29 points per game. She complet-ed her 3-year career as a point guard averaging 20 points per game while recording 208 assists and 171 steals. Her point total of 1,331 established a new Hamden record.

Fraser, Edna

As with many of our nominees who participated in sports prior to Title IX, records of their accomplishments do not exist. Formal sports did not exist when Edna Fraser attended both West Haven High School and New Haven State Teachers’ College (now Southern Connecticut State University.)

Neary, Trish
1998
College Player

During her senior year (1983) at Wamogo Regional High School, Trish Neary averaged 16 points per game with a single game high of 38 points. She was named to the All-State First Team, chosen the League’s MVP, and led her school to win two Berkshire League Championships in 1981 and 1983.

Foley, Bonnie
1998
High School Player

Barbara (Bonnie) Foley attended Stratford High School where she played on the first competitive teams for girls at SHS. In only their second year of competition, Stratford won the MBIAC championship and qualified for the State Tournament. She had a career average of 30 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 assists. Foley scored a game high 42 points against cross town rival Bunnell High School.
