The third Connecticut high school woman to score over 1,000 points, Weston High School guard Ellen Tomasciewicz totaled 1,378 points before graduating in 1978. In 1974, Ellen's Weston team captured the CIAC State Championship crown for Coach June Olah.

A three-sport Varsity athlete, Ellen was First Team All-State in basketball in both her junior and senior years. She was pitcher/second baseman for Weston's 1974 State Championship Softball Team and joined the Raybestos Brakettes as a high school junior, playing with three National Championship Teams. Ellen made First Team All-American her senior year with the Brakettes. Ellen's Weston Field Hockey Team was the State Championship Runner-Up in 1977.

"Don't focus on just one sport," Ellen advises young athletes. "If you do, you miss the challenge of excelling as an outstanding overall athlete."

At Princeton University, Ellen excelled at guard for Coach Diane Schumacher. In her four-year Ivy League career, Ellen totaled 1,275 points, had 340 career assists, and 244 steals. She was First Team All-Ivy in 1980 and '81 and Second Team All-Ivy in 1982.

Athletic participation was a family affair in the Tomasciewicz household.  Ellen, her older sister Claire Beth, and brother Stephen had great parental support throughout their athletic careers.  Ellen fondly recalls that she and C.B. played on the Weston High School basketball team the won the State championship during her freshman year.  Four years later, the sisters again played together on the Princeton team that was runner-up in the Ivy League Championship.

After receiving her master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, Ellen won a position with the National Orchestra of New York, and it was during the year she played with them that she was 1986 co - winner of both their concerto competition and the Claus Adam Award Winner for Outstanding Musical Accomplishment and Leadership.

Ellen spent a year playing principal horn with the Nova Filarmonia Portuguesa in Lisbon and did some Broadway show national and international tours. Ellen won the job of playing Principal Horn for the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra in Naples, Florida in 1993 and continues there today.
