Laurie Roche was an outstanding three-sport athlete at Guilford High School from 1976-1980. As a freshman, Roche received Honorable Mention All-State and First Team All-Shoreline in basketball. She led Guilford in scoring and rebounding throughout her career. She was the first Guilford player, male or female, to score 1,000 points and pull down 1,000 rebounds.
Roche was named to the All-State Team during her junior and senior years and as a senior, she was selected to play in the Connecticut Shoot-Out and received Honorable Mention McDonald’s All-American. Roche was inducted into the Guilford Hall of Fame in 1996.
Roche was awarded a scholarship to the University of Rhode Island. She made an immediate impact and as a freshman, was second in team scoring, rebounding, and steals. She transferred to Southern Connecticut State University in 1982 to play for Coach Tony Barone. Her 1983 team advanced to the Final Four. Roche completed her college career with 1,235 points.
