Lisa Mikelic was and still is recognized as one of Danbury High School's most accomplished and decorated athletes. Lisa was an FCIAC 1st Tem selection in 1985, 1986, and 1987. Following her 1986 and 1987 seasons, Lisa earned the following recognition for her basketball achievements: USA Today Honorable Mention All-America; Street & Smith All-America Honorable Mention; New York Daily News First Team; Hartford Courant First Team All-State; and The Bridgeport Post named her Class AAA Player-of-the-Year and First Team selection. In 1987, Lisa was a Converse All-America Honorable Mention selection, the New York Daily News Player-of-the-Year, the MSG Network High School Sports Spotlight Award recipient and the CIAC Class LL Championship Game MVP. She earned MVP honors at the Danbury Holiday Tournament in 1985 and 1986, and was recognized as an All-Area selection the The Danbury News Times (3 years); New Haven Register as an All-State Honorable Mention (1year) and their First Team All-State (2 years). In 1986 both Burger King and the Knights of Columbus 101 chose her Player-of-the-Week.
Lisa, a tri-captain as a senior, held the record in scoring (1,556), assists, steals, and was second in rebounds upon graduation. For her outstanding accomplishments, Danbury High School selected her female Athlete-of-the-Year in 1987 and in the same year she was the first student (male or female) to have her number retired. The United States Marine Corps honored her with the Distinguished Athlete Award for displaying courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership as a high school athlete.
