Maloney, Dave

High School Coach

Inducted

2005

Dave Maloney honed his coaching skills at the Branford Intermediate School where his boys’ and girls’ teams won 83% of their games. He then moved to Branford High School where the Lady Hornets won 154 games en route to capturing two Housatonic League and Class L State championships. His 1983 team was undefeated –winning 24 games -- and was eventually ranked #5 in Parade Magazine and #8 in the USA Today Poll.

Maloney was widely acknowledged for his basketball coaching talents. He was named Coach of the Year by the New Haven Tap-Off Club and CT High School Coaches’ Association and inducted into the Branford High School and Tap-Off Club Halls of Fame. Maloney has influenced the direction and growth of CT girls’ basketball since 1984 when he was appointed to the CIAC Girls’ Basketball Committee. He was a charter member of the CT High School Coaches’ Association Girls’ Basketball All-Start Game Committee and is currently the CIAC Girls’ Tournament Director. Maloney knew that girls’ basketball “had finally arrived” when he had to delay the start of a tournament semi-final game in order to accommodate the sell-out crowd!
