Cathy Inglese led her Sheehan (Wallingford) High School team to the 1976 Class L State Championship during her senior year. She was named to the All-Housatonic League and All-State Teams and was selected as Sheehan’s “Outstanding Athlete.”
Inglese went on to an outstanding career at Southern CT State College. She captained the team during her senior year and in 1980, graduated magna cum laude. After graduation, she had professional tryouts with several teams before beginning her coaching career at Glastonbury High School.
In 1983, Inglese became an assistant basketball coach and assistant AD at the University of New Hampshire. She was named Head Coach at the University of Vermont in 1986, a position she held for seven seasons.
At Vermont, the Catamounts put together an unbelievable string of 57 consecutive regular season wins over two seasons: 28-0 in 1992 and 29-0 in 1993. She posted a 120-74 overall re-cord at Vermont.
Inglese was appointed Head Coach at Boston College in 1993. In her 13th year at BC, Inglese posted 20 or more wins in seven out of the last eight seasons and guided the Eagles to the three NCAA Sweet 16 appearances (2002, 2004, 2006). Her record at BC – through 13 seasons – is 239-151. Her overall coaching record is 359-225.
In 2009, Cathy was appointed Head Basketball Coach at the University of Rhode Island.
