Gombotz, Jen

Jennifer Gombotz would like every young athlete to have a mother like hers. "Mom put things into perspective for me," says Jen. "Work hard, but always have fun!' she'd say."

Jen's love of basketball began in third grade. By age eleven, she was playing AAU ball and traveling to Orlando, Florida for the National Tournament.

A forward on Southington High School's Girls' Basketball Team from 1995 through 1997, Jennifer Gombotz set a scoring record of 1,135 points (15.9 points per game), totaled 514 rebounds, 234 steals, and 92 blocked shots.

In 1996, Southington was the CIAC Tournament's Class LL Runner-Up. In 1997, Jen Gombotz was named Connecticut Athlete of the Year.

A three-sport varsity athlete at Southington, Jen was named All-State Basketball three years in a row, All-State Softball three years in a row, and All-State Volleyball two years in a row.

Jen was a pitcher on Southington's Softball Team which won the CIAC Class LL State Championship in 1997, posting a 24-0 record. Her Volleyball Team was the CIAC Class LL Runner-Up in 1995.

At Providence College, Jennifer Gombotz scored 1,133 career points, had 215 career assists, and totaled 175 steals. Her freshman season at Providence saw Jen named to the Big East All-Rookie Team, "the greatest basketball honor of my life," she says.

Currently Varsity Basketball and Softball Coach at Plainville High School, Jen had, until 2011, served as Varsity Volleyball Coach at Newington High.

Jennifer Gombotz was inducted into the Southington Sports' Hall of Fame in 2012.
