Basketball was a DeGennaro family tradition. Lisa DeGennaro’s father, sister, and brother all played for Hamden High School. Her father got the entire family interested in the game at an early age. He taught the siblings how to play and games played in the family driveway were very physical and competitive. Her Mom was always available for support.
Lisa was taught to "develop a strong work ethic and it will lead to success in all aspects of your life."
As a shooting guard for Coach Marilyn Mather at Hamden High, Lisa hit the 1,000 point scoring mark during her three year career, averaging 23.1 points per game her senior year, with a career average of 18.1 points per game. All-District and All-State in both her junior and senior years, Lisa was recognized as an Outstanding High School Athlete by the New Haven Tap-Off Club.
A two-sport Varsity athlete, Lisa was All-District and All-State in Softball as well her junior and senior years at Hamden High.
Upon graduation, Lisa received a full basketball scholarship to Southern New Hampshire University. Playing guard for Coach Nancy Rowe and Captain of her team, Lisa established the Free Throw Record at Southern New Hampshire, recording a 91% accuracy rate her senior year and a career Free Throw Shooting accuracy rate of 81% over four years. Lisa played on the first Southern New Hampshire Women's Basketball Team to make it to the NCAA Division 11 Tournament.
Lisa coached AAU Women's Basketball from 2000 to 2011 and was Cheshire's Girls' Travel Basketball Coach from 2005 to 2010.
