Geno Auriemma has redefined the meaning of success in Women's College Basketball. In his 27 years as Head Coach at the University of Connecticut, Auriemma has made UConn Women's Basketball the gold standard against which all other programs are measured.
Auriemma's Huskies have garnered seven National Championship Titles, 37 Big East Titles, 13 Final Four appearances, and four perfect seasons in 1995, 2002, 2009, and 2010. Just as significant in the world of college athletics is the 100 percent gradua¬tion rate among UConn women basketball players since Geno’s arrival in 1985.
In 2006, Geno Auriemma was inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts and the Women's Basket¬ball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee. Auriemma was named Head Coach of the U.S. National Team and led the U.S. Women's Olympic Basketball Team--with six former Huskies aboard -- to victory in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The U.S. Olympic Team coached by Auriemma posted a perfect 8-0 record on its way to Gold.
Geno Auriemma has been named National Coach of the Year seven times and Big East Coach of the Year ten times. Auriemma's 27 year coaching record stands at a phenomenal 804-129.
During Auriemma's tenure as UConn Women's Basketball Head Coach, the Women Huskies have become the most beloved sports' team in Connecticut athletic history.
