1997 Inductee Biographies

ANNA LEE SERRANO -  Higb Scbool Coacb Inductee
Anna Lee Serrano started her coaching career as the girls basketball coach at Brookfield, CT, in 1970 after graduating from the University of New Hampshire. During the next seven seasons, she led her team on an incredible 59 game regular season win streak. Between 1971-1977, her teams were 6 time Burkshire League champions and state tournament participants. Anna Lee's career record for the regular season was 99-8 and 105-12 including tournament play. In 1978, she moved to the college ranks as the head women's basketball coach at Western Connecticut State College. In three seasons, Anna Lee led her team to a 31-19 record.

CHICKIE POISSON - Referee Inductee
Chickie Poisson dedicated 16 years of outstanding service to the state of Connecticut as a member of the Bridgeport and Southwest Connecticut Officiating Boards. From the mid 1960's to the mid 1970's, Chickie officiated throughout the state at the high school and college levels and in the recreational and industrial leagues.  Not content to just officiate games, Chickie also contributed to growth of officiating through teaching courses and conducting training programs from 1958-1975. Chickie was also was involved in rating officials from 1950-1979. In 1980, the FCIAC awarded her for "Effort in the Development of Women's Athletics, Especially Improvement of Officiating."Beginning as a college student with the Trenton NJ. Board of Officials in 1949,  Chickie's officiating career has spanned 4 decades and she has held officials' ratings in five sports. Her officiating versatility includes a national honorary rating in basketball in 1962, Volleyball in 1973, and field hockey in 1976. Chickie attained an international rating in field hockey in 1979. Chickie has been previously honored for her service to sports by selection to four Halls of Fame: Trenton State College (1982), United States Field Hockey (1988), University of Bridgeport (1988), and New Agenda/Northeast Women (1992).

ELEANOR LEMAIRE - Honorary Inductee
Ellie Lemaire joined the staff of Arnold College at the University of Bridgeport in 1964, and coached the only undefeated women's basketball team in the school's history. Very active in officiating, Ellie was both basketball chairperson, and board chairperson of Southwest Connecticut's Board of Women Officials from 1963 to 1966, and was Officiating Coordinator of the Eastern District from 1967 to 1969. She was a rated official in basketball, volleyball and field hockey. In 1976, Ellie returned to her native Rhode Island to serve as Assistant Athletic Director for women at the University of Rhode island. At the time of her retirement, Ellie was the Senior Associate Director of Athletics.

Ellie has been selected to Halls of Fame at the University of  Rhode Island (1994), the University of Bridgeport (1990), the New Agenda/Northeast Women (1990), and Bristol, RI 1986. She also has been the recipient of many other honors and awards including the CAHPER Professional Award, the A.T. Cranston Award (R.I.), Outstanding Teacher Award (University of Bridgeport), Distinguished Service Award (New England College Athletic Conference), Administrator of the Year (National Association of College Women Athletic Administrators, District 1), the Katherine Ley Award (Eastern College Athletic Conference), and the University of Rhode island Administrative Excellence Award. She is listed in Who's Who of American Women.

An early and long time advocate of Tide IX, Ellie was selected as a consultant in sport equity matters for the Connecticut Department of Education and the University of Bridgeport. During her long tenure in athletic organizations, she was a member of the AIAW Executive Board,  President of EAIAW and Rhode Island AIAW. Most recently, Ellie was a member of the NCAA Special Events Committee that makes selections for College and High School All-Star Teams.

KATHLEEN REGAN - College Player Inductee
Known as 'Kregs" in her college days, Kathleen Regan graduated from Eastern Connecticut State College (ECSU) where she played both at the forward and center positions. She led her team to a four year record of 71-22, and to a #1 Northeast Small College ranking. ECSU was the 1977 AIAW Northeast Champions and  1979 Connecticut Small College, Champions.

As a charter member and first woman to be inducted into the ECSU Athletic Hall of Fame, Kathleen is recognized as that school's to score over 1000 points (1,283) and pull down over 800 career rebounds. In 1979, she was named Connecticut's Small College Offensive Player-of-the-Year. In 1978 Kathleen was selected to the Small College All-Star team. Her                  single season record (1978-79) was 411 points for a 16.4 points per game scoring average. A scholar-athlete, Kathleen played in all 93 basketball games of her college career.

KERRY BASCOM POLIQUIN - College Player Inductee
Kerry Bascom was instrumental in leading her team to many milestones while also being recognized for numerous individual accomplishments during her four year career at the University of Connecticut. Her 1989, 1990 and 1991 tearns were Big East Regular Season Champions, Big East Tournament Champions and NCAA Tournament participants. The 1991 team earned a trip to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in the program's history.

Throughout Kerry's college career she compiled an extensive list of honors. In the Big East Conference, Kerry was a three time Big East Player-of-the-Year, First Team All-Big East Conference (unanimous selection), and member of the Big East All-Tournament Team. In her senior season she was honored as Big East Player-of-the-Week, as a sophomore, she was named the Big East Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer and as a freshman she was a unanimous selection to the Big East All-Freshman Team. Kerry was named to the Kodak Division I All-American team in 1991 and was a three time member of the Kodak District I All-American team from 1989-91.

Her list of all-tournament honors include: 1991 NCAA Tournament East Regional Most Outstanding Performer, Connecticut Classic and its Most Valuable Player and Duke Dial Classic team. In 1990, Kerry was named Harvard Invitational's Most Valuable Player and earned all-tournament teams honors at the LaSalle Invitational and Amana-Hawkeye Classic. In 1989, Kerry was also named to Virginia Commonwealth/Siegal's Classic all-tournament team. Street & Smith named Kerry to their Honorable Mention All-America team (1990) and chose her for their 1990-91 Pre-Season All America team. In her junior year, she was a US National Team Trial participant and also selected Collegiate Female Athlete-of-the-Year by the Connecticut Sports' Writers' Alliance. Kerry was a member of the United States World University Games basketball team which won the gold medal in 1991. Kerry concluded her collegiate career as UCONN's All-time leading scorer with 2,177 points. In 120 career games, Kerry averaged 18.1 pointes per game, 7.6 rebounds, 221 assists and 127 steals. For all her athletic achievements, The UCONN Club honored her with their prestigious, Outstanding Senior Athlete Award.

KATHLEEN CURLEY KOCHISS  - High Scbool Player
Kathleen Kochiss played at both the forward and center positions at Milford High School and as the team captain in her last three years. She was a four-year, First Team All-CIAC and named most valuable player in the 1977, 1978, 1979 tournaments. In 1978 and in 1979, she was selected All County, All State and honored by the New Haven Tap-Off Club. She tallied 1,010 high school career points for a 22.3 points per game average, and her single game scoring record was 36 points. Her career rebounding record was 15.1 M game. Kathleen was named Milford High School's Outstanding Athlete in both 1978 and 1979.

LISA MIKELIC - Higb Scbool Player
Lisa Mikelic was and still is recognized as one of Danbury High School's most accomplished and decorated athletes. Lisa was an FCIAC 1st Tem selection in 1985, 1986, and 1987.  Following her 1986 and 1987 seasons, Lisa earned the following recognition for her basketball achievements: USA Today Honorable Mention All-America; Street & Smith All-America Honorable Mention; New York Daily News First Team; Hartford Courant First Team All-State; and The Bridgeport Post named her Class AAA Player-of-the-Year and First Team selection. In 1987, Lisa was a Converse All-America Honorable Mention selection, the New York Daily News Player-of-the-Year, the MSG Network High School Sports Spotlight Award recipient and the CIAC Class LL Championship Game MVP.  She earned MVP honors at the Danbury Holiday Tournament in 1985 and 1986, and was recognized as an All-Area selection the The Danbury News Times (3 years); New Haven Register as an All-State Honorable Mention (1year) and their First Team All-State (2 years).  In 1986 both Burger King and the Knights of Columbus 101 chose her Player-of-the-Week.

Lisa, a tri-captain as a senior, held the record in scoring (1,556), assists, steals, and was second in rebounds upon graduation. For her outstanding accomplishments, Danbury High School selected her female Athlete-of-the-Year in 1987 and in the same year she was the first student (male or female) to have her number retired. The United States Marine Corps honored her with the Distinguished Athlete Award for displaying courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership as a high school athlete.
