1995 Inductee Biographies

Cindy Hitchcock - High School Coach Inductee
Cindy coached girl's basketball at Cheshire High School from 1970-1990, and in those twenty years compiled a record of 246 wins and 150 losses. Cheshire won the Housatonic League tournament in 1989, and her teams were second in the league six times. In 1977, they were runners-up in the State Tournament.

In 1993 the New Haven Tap-Off Club named Cindy its High School Coach of the Year. In 2004 she was inducted into the CT Volleyball Hall of Fame.

Cindy is still teaching physical education at Cheshire High, where, over the years she has also coached track and field, and has led the volleyball team to three state and eight league titles.

Rebecca Strominger - Referee Inductee
Becky's career as a referee spanned more than thirty years and four states. She achieved National and National Honorary ratings, and officiated New York Regional, New York State and Connecticut State championships. Predominantly a high school official, Becky also refereed college games and has served as President of the Bridgeport Board of Women Officials. In addition to conducting rating sessions for officials, over the years she has coached high school basketball, field hockey, tennis and volleyball and has many championships to her credit. A member of the University of Dayton Athletic Hall of Fame, Becky is retired from teaching physical education at Darien High School.

Joann Galati Honorary lnductee
Beginning with her participation in field hockey, basketball and softball at New Britain High School and Southern Connecticut State University, Joann's athletic career has been full and varied. In 1967 she began the first interscholastic teams for girls in basketball and softball in Bristol. In 1970 she initiated, formed, and received CIAC approval for an all-girls sports team conference, the Central Connecticut Interscholastic Conference for girls teams, who at the time, were not included with the boys in the Central Connecticut Interscholastic League. The league lasted for years, until both boys and girls teams entered the Colonial Conference. In 1984, Joann represented the Colonial Conference schools and girls teams in the development of policies and procedures for the twenty-four school Central Connecticut Conference. She has served on the CIAC girls basketball committee, was a coaches' representative and athletic director. She has worked summer basket- ball camps, conducted clinics, provided parent programs on girls sports, and has held a state DGWS official's rating. Joann also served as chairwoman of the Central Connecticut Board of Officials. She is presently Assistant Principal at Chippens Hill Middles School in Bristol.

 Robert Miller - College Coach Inductee
 
In his nineteen year career at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSLD, Bob's overall record is 332-149, for a winning percentage of 69%. During his tenure, ECSU qualified for the AIAW regional tournament five times and the national tournament twice. They went to the ECAC Division III New England Tournament five times, and were champions in 1988-89. ECSU made six appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament, twice making it to the Final- Four. Women he has coached at Eastern have been named ECAC All-New England, ECAC Player of the Year, ECAC Rookie of the Year, All-Northeast Region, and Kodak All America selections. Two former players competed in the European Professional League. Bob himself has been honored as one of four nominees nationally from small colleges for Stayfree Coach of the Year in 1978, NEWBA Coach of the Year, and Converse Coach of the year for Division 11 District I in 1990-91. He was co-founder and first president of the NEWBA-3, New England Women's Basketball Association, and a founder of the Connecticut Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Bob is a professor of physical education at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Linda Massey Wilson - High School Player Inductee
Linda played four seasons at Brien McMahon High School, graduating in 1970. She was the captain, leading rebounder and leading scorer, netting 564 points in her career. In 1968-69 Linda's team was undefeated and in 1970 lost 1 game. Linda averaged 19 points per game in her senior year. She was the first girl in that school's history to be named "Athlete of the Week", and set school records scoring 37 points in a game against Norwalk High School, and 227 points in a season in 1969! Linda went on to play 4 years at SCSU under Coach Louise 0'Neal and participated in the AIAW Championships from 1970-74. Linda now a physical education teacher for the City of Norwalk.

Joy Jeter - College Player Inductee
Joy was a four-year member of the University of New Haven team from 1985 to 1989. During this time, with a record of 102-22, the UNH team won four New England Collegiate Conference Tournament titles, two NCAA Division II New England Regional Championships and one Division II National Championship. Individually, Joy was first-team All-NE for all four years of her career, twice voted NECC Player of the first-team All-ECAS selection three times, and three-time All- American. Joy is now a prevention specialist for Community College for Beaver Falls County Prevention Project.
