CONNECTICUT WOMEN'S BASKETBALLHALL OF FAME CONSTITUTION I. NAME: CONNECTICUT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME
II. PURPOSE: The Connecticut Women's Basketball Hall of Fame (C.W.B.H.O.F.) was founded in 1987 (by Ann Fariss, Tony Candido, Louise Albrecht, Brenda
Reilly, and Linda Wooster) to establish a platform to recognize, honor,
and perpetuate the memory of those who, either through participation,
support, service or achievement have contributed to the enhancement of women's basketball in Connecticut. Inductees will be those candidates who have distinguished themselves through excellence and who have
helped to bring acclaim, honor, and distinction to Connecticut women's
basketball. III. LOCATION OF THE HALL: Central Connecticut State University, Kaiser Gymnasium, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain, Connecticut
06050.IV. QUALIFICATIONS: Qualification for induction into the C.W.B.H.O.F. shall be as follows:
A. Eligibility: Eligibility shall be based on the athletic achievements or athletic contributions of the individual.
B. Induction Categories: 1. A High School Player
a. Can be nominated at any time beginning five years from graduation. b. Must have graduated from a Connecticut high school. 2. A High School Coach
a. Must have coached for a minimum of five years at the high school level in Connecticut.
3. College Player(s): To ensure divisional representation there are two categories: (A) Large Division (B) Medium/Small Division
a. Can be nominated at any time beginning five years after completion of eligibility.
b. Must have completed college eligibility at a Connecticut college or university, or
c. Must be a Connecticut high school graduate who has completed her college
eligibility at an out-of-state college. 4. A College Coach:
a. Must have been a Connecticut college coach for five or more years OR
b. Must have coached for a total of ten years in a Connecticut high school or college 5. Referee:
a. Must have officiated basketball for a minimum of five years in Connecticut.
b. Must have officiated at a high school or collegiate championship level (excluded from
this stipulation are those who officiated prior to 1974 when there were no championships).
6. An Honorary Nominee: a. Must have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to and support of high school or
collegiate women's basketball. c. Made significant contributions to the development or advancement of women's
athletic programs in a school, college, amateur, industrial, or recreational setting. C. Selection to the CWBHF
: All categories need not be filled annually.
1. Selection shall be made on the basis of satisfying the award criteria and demonstrating integrity, sportsmanship, character and contribution to Connecticut
women's basketball. 2. More than one person may be selected in any calendar year in each category. 3. No more than seven (7) new members will be selected per calendar year.
4. A person may be inducted under only one category. D. Nominations for Selection of Inductees: 1. All new nominations must be received by the Chairperson of the N/S committee by
the first Monday in October. 2. The N/S committee shall meet in May to review new and past nominations and shall determine which nominees, if any, meet the criteria
to recommended to the Executive Committee for selection into the Hall of Fame. 3. To be selected, a nominee must receive at least two-thirds vote of the N/S
committee members present. 4. Nominated individuals shall remain among the active nominees for the duration of the Hall of Fame.
V. OFFICERS OF THE HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE:
of Directors. 1. Executive Director – Appointed by the Board of Directors
a. Direct and coordinate Hall of Fame business to include fiscal management, files, records, and mailings. b. Organize and promote the awards banquet.
c. Responsible for all correspondence. d. Shall act as Administrative Assistant to the Board of Directors
2. Board of Directors - President, President-elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and the
Founders: The Founders will appoint the first Board of Directors. There-after, the officers will be nominated and elected by the members of the CWBHOF. 3. President
– Nominated and selected by the Hall of Fame members. a. Preside over all meetings. b. Appoint committee members
c. Coordinate the promotion of the Hall of Fame4. President-elect – Appointed by Executive Committee
a. Assume President's duties in his/her absence. b. Ex-Officio of N/S Committee 5. Secretary/Treasurer – Appointed by Executive Committee:
a. Record the minutes of all meetings. b. Be responsible for fiscal management and annual audit. c. Maintain membership addresses.
6. Term of Office: a. Officers will serve two (4) year terms and be chosen by the Executive Committee
from those nominated. Only one officer will retire each year. b. At least two nominees must be proposed for any elected position.
c. Elected representatives may succeed themselves for a second consecutive term. 7. Historian/Archivist:
a. Collect and place pictures, publicity, constitution and all items pertaining to meetings and in a ring-binder file (1988 - to Present).
b. Attend meetings and annual induction ceremony (April). c. Represent CWBHOF at CAHPERD Fall Conventions (exhibitor).
VI. COMMITTEES: The following standing committee chairperson will be appointed by the
Executive Director, with the approval of the Board of Directors. At least one founder will be a member of each committee.
1. Nomination/Selection Committee: The Nomination/Selection (N/S) Committee shall consist of 4 members and a Chair (appointed by the Executive Director). The
Committee will administer the nomination process and shall: a. Seek nominations of potential candidates through all reasonable channels.
b. Designate a time and lace for the acceptance of nominations subject to criteria there stated.
c. Specify the required form and manner of substantiation of achievements. d. Nominee(s) receiving votes from at least two-thirds of the N/S Committee members
present will be submitted to the Executive Committee for Hall of Fame consideration. e. Shall meet to review nominations received and shall determine which nominees, if
any, meet the criteria to be recommended for selection into the Hall of Fame by the Executive Committee.
f. The Chair shall maintain updated files of all nominees. 2. Banquet Committee:
a. Select banquet facility (place, time, date) with approval of the Executive Committee. b. Coordinate tickets, program, engage a speaker and presentation of awards.
3. Publicity Committee: a. Write releases for media. b. Promote creative ways to advance the image and growth of the Hall of Fame.
4. Fund Raising Committee: a. Develop and promote fund raising activities. 5. Awards Committee:
a. Coordinate the awarding of an appropriate award commemorating the recipient's achievements to be presented:
1. To the inductee. 2. To be placed on public display at the high school or college of the inductee's choice.
6. Membership Committee: a. Solicit members. b. Keep membership records.
VII. HALL OF FAME MEMBERSHIP: A. There will be (4) categories of membership:
1. Individuals - $10.00
2. Educational Institutions - $25.00
3. Affiliated Organizations - $50.00
4. Life-Time Membership - $100.00
VIII. AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUION: A. The President shall implement amendment procedures. Amendments may be
proposed by any member of the Board of Directors.
B. Proposals for amendments must be submitted in writing to the President at least thirty (30) days prior to the meeting at which they are to be considered for adoption or at any meeting of the Board
of Directors. C. A proposed amendment shall be adopted upon receiving a 2/3 vote of the total Board of Directors in attendance. D. All changes in the Constitution shall go into effect
immediately upon adoption, unless otherwise specified.
IX. MEETINGS: The Board of Directors and N/S Committee shall meet annually and, when necessary, at the call of the President or Chairpersons. Meetings shall be conducted by Robert's Rules of
Order. The entire membership shall meet annually. |
